CWSG is a local branch of CWS Global, a 501(c)3 transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster. CWSG opened in Greensboro in 2009 as a refugee resettlement agency, welcoming refugees who have fled persecution to the Triad and empowering these newcomers with the skills, resources, and relationships necessary to rebuild their lives in the Triad. Over the past decade, CWSG has welcomed 1,995 refugees to Greensboro, assisted with over 1,100 job placements for refugees, and provided over 3,000 with low-cost immigration legal services.

Internship Description

The Workforce Development Intern will support the work of the CWSG Employment Team, helping prepare refugees for the U.S. workforce, conducting outreach to and educating employers, and assisting with initial job placements and job upgrades. Specific tasks may include:

-working with refugee clients to identify skills, interests, goals, and work history
-providing employment readiness coaching, including cultural norms within the U.S. workforce, orientation to the hiring process (networking, interviews, and applications), and worker’s rights and responsibilities.
-follow-up with both refugee clients and employers
-identifying potential job opportunities for newly-arrived refugees seeking a first job as well as clients pursuing job upgrades
-connecting refugee clients to additional resources, such as English classes or training/certification opportunities
-maintaining regular communication with supervisor and attending weekly meetings
-attending any relevant trainings/webinars when asked by supervisor
