To launch the second year of the Opportunity Greensboro Fellows Program, we went back to our favorite kickoff spot on Lewis Street – HQ Greensboro! On May 31, the 53 Fellows in the 2017 cohort came together to meet each other, enjoy Mellow Mushroom for dinner, and check out a space many of them had not previously visited/explored. Although this kickoff event is informal, the Fellows learned more about Opportunity Greensboro, Action Greensboro, what to expect throughout the summer in terms of Fellows programming and events, and started to learn more about one another before spending two full days together at the Leonard Kaplan Leadership Institute.
This year, we are thrilled to announce all seven local colleges have representation in the Fellows cohort! Here is how the cohort breaks down by institution:
Bennett College: 1
Elon University: 13
Elon School of Law: 1
Greensboro College: 3
Guilford College: 7
Guilford Technical Community College: 4
North Carolina A&T State University: 11
University of North Carolina at Greensboro: 13
Before leaving HQ Greensboro for the evening, each Fellow received their Welcome Bag, which included generous swag from program partners. Thank you to the program partners who contributed to the 2017 Welcome Bags: Aerotek, Biscuitville, Center for Board Excellence, Center for Creative Leadership, Charles Aris, City of Greensboro, Cone Health, Downtown Greensboro Inc., Elon University, Frank Blum Construction, Global Brands Group, Greensboro Grasshoppers, GTCC, Guilford College, Kellin Foundation, NCA&T, Samet Corporation, Syngenta, The Fresh Market, Tigermoth Creative, Triad Stage, UNCG, VF Corporation, and Xtern Software. Providing Welcome Bags is a great way to start the summer, and these bags would not be possible without support from our contributing partners!
Special thanks to HQ Greensboro for allowing us to host this event in your beautiful space! HQ Greensboro is a shared work-space designed to empower, foster, and cultivate businesses that produce long-term job growth and positive social impact. HQ Greensboro addresses two challenges that entrepreneurs face: building a trusted support community and gaining access to flexible, affordable office space. Through their partnership, HQ Raleigh, HQ Charlotte and HQ Greensboro support a strong regional community of entrepreneurs. The three entities team up on programming, events, membership, space design and administration. The best part is that you are able to access any of the three HQ spaces to work when travelling!
