Featured Fellow: Mandi Ballard

Mandi Ballard is today’s Featured Fellow!M.Ballard

Mandi Ballard is a rising senior at Greensboro College, and she is interning with Cone Health this summer. Mandi is an exercise and sports science major with a minor in health, and she aspires to be a Cardiac Rehab Specialist. Originally from Mebane, in Greensboro, Mandi appreciates all the good food and having the Grasshoppers stadium right in downtown!

Mandi shares about her internship experience through the Fellows Program:

Over the past eight weeks of my internship, I have learned more than I ever imagined I would. I have been working alongside the Exercise Physiologists at Alamance Regional Medical Center (Cone Health) in the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Gym. On a regular day we have Cardiac Rehab classes, Pulmonary Rehab classes and Forever Fit classes. All classes begin with the check in process (blood pressure, heart rate and weight), monitoring the patients on different aerobic exercise equipment, and then leading a small free-weights session at the end. I now assist with each of these as if I’m an employee. Some small projects I’ve completed include making a detailed equipment list, creating a satisfaction survey and gathering the results, and helping to write patient’s exercise prescriptions. This internship has given me the opportunity to explore this career and have a better idea of what I want to do after I complete my undergraduate degree at Greensboro College.
Without the Fellows Program, none of this would have ever been possible and for that I will be forever thankful. Being involved in the Leonard Kaplan Leadership Institute and other various activities through the program has allowed me to meet so many awesome people and get a better look at all the wonderful post-graduation opportunities that exist in Greensboro and the surrounding area.
